The HKUST-MIT Research Alliance Consortium aims to build the network and mechanisms required for R&D collaboration between world-class universities and leading technology companies through industry-driven pre-competitive research. The four research clusters aim to address critical and relevant problems globally, namely Internet of Things for intelligent buildings and transportation, data science and e-learning, advanced manufacturing and biomedical systems.

The Asian Science and Technology Pioneering Institutes of Research and Education (ASPIRE) is a consortium comprising HKUST, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tsinghua University. It aims to form a hub for innovation in Asia through the advancement of science and technology and the development of human resources, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable world.
